Hutchinson's sign; periungual pigmentation
Etiology:
- pigmentation of the fingernail (brown nail) also involving the proximal nail fold is suggestive of acral lentiginous melanoma
- melanoma until proven otherwise
Clinical manifestations:
1) brown-black discoloration of the proximal & lateral nail folds
- may appear to spread proximally from the proximal nail fold, not involving the nail [2]
2) brown-black pigmentation of the nail matrix, nail bed & nail plate obliterating the lunula
3) nail plate may show dystrophic changes
